HMRC MTD Service Downtime

HMRC has scheduled a release to the MTD VAT service which will require them to close the service from 17:00 on Friday 30 November until 11:00 on Tuesday 4 December. This will support the release of more functionality that will allow HMRC to open up the pilot to the vast majority of customer types, including Partnerships, EU Traders, New businesses and those whose affairs are not up to date.

These customer types should not join the pilot from 04 December as the eligibility criteria will not change until we have conducted some small private proving. We will let you know when these customer types can join the pilot.

Whilst unavailable, new customers will be unable to sign-up to the VAT pilot and existing customers will be unable to file VAT returns. Customers who joined the service on 29 and 30 November may encounter a delay in receiving their sign-up confirmation. HMRC appreciate that the timing of this is close to the 7 Dec filing deadline, but the service will be re-opened at 11:00 on 4 December to ensure customers can file before the 7 Dec.

Important: Customers participating in the pilot should not revert to filing their VAT returns through non-MTD routes during this period.
