HMRC has issued details of planned changes to their telephone services this month. They plan to trial reduce hours to some of their phone lines, so that they can dedicate the time to work on post that has built up over the past year.

To test the approach, HMRC will close their VAT and CT phone lines (with the exception of the bereavement line) on 3,10 and 17‌‌ ‌December.

The service availability page on gov.uk and the software service availability page on gov.uk are updated with details of the downtime and any updates will be posted there first.

As with any trial, HMRC will keep a close eye on our progress, responding to any issues as we go. Towards the end of December, HMRC will take a view on what to do next and update you in the first week of January.
