HMRC Update: MTD for VAT Errors

HMRC Update 26th July 2019

HMRC have advised that the previous error with signing up to MTD for VAT has now been resolved. They are working on clearing the backlog and expect all affected customers to receive their confirmation email by Saturday 27th July. New sign-ups will receive their email confirmation within 72 hours as usual.

Additionally, HMRC are aware that some customers have experienced an issue with MTD for VAT returns, and are encountering an “Internal Server Error” message. A fix has been applied on 26th July.

HMRC is aware that they are taking longer than usual to send confirmation emails to customers signing up to Making Tax Digital.

They are contacting those affected to advise them that there is a short delay in finalising their sign up and that they should expect to receive their confirmation in the next few days if they haven’t already.

In the meantime, there is no need for the client or agent to take any action and they should not try to sign up again or attempt to submit a return until the confirmation email has been received.
